Ghost Watch: The Transparency Gap Across US Employers

With an average transparency score of 65.6 across 118 US employers, candidates face a distinct split in hiring visibility.

The JobCop ledger currently tracks 118 graded US employers, reflecting an overall average transparency score of 65.6 out of 100 across the index. In the past seven days, exactly zero anonymous candidate reports were filed and zero cases were opened directly with me. Silence on the intake line does not mean applicant tracking systems have suddenly become transparent or effective. It usually indicates that job seekers have accepted radio silence as an standard cost of searching for work.

The overall index average of 65.6 masks a notable operational spread between companies that maintain basic hiring visibility and those operating near the bottom of our scoring scale. Understanding where an employer falls on this spectrum helps set realistic expectations before submitting an application.

The Low Performers

At the lower end of the ledger, several companies demonstrate minimal process transparency. Picktrace currently sits at the very bottom of the graded list with a transparency score of 50 out of 100. Immediately above Picktrace is Project Healthy Minds, holding a score of 51 out of 100.

The low-scoring cluster continues with Epsilon3 at a score of 52 out of 100, followed by both Cority and Clickhouse tied at a score of 53 out of 100. Osedea completes this bottom bracket with a score of 54 out of 100.

Outside the core graded US ledger list, other tracked entities reflect similar mid-to-low transparency metrics. Ahrefsjobs holds a transparency score of 59 out of 100 using Greenhouse as its ATS. Jobgether sits at 60 out of 100 on Lever, while Ziprecruiter holds a score of 61 out of 100 on Greenhouse. Other unverified entities on the index—such as Workablehr, Glassdoor, and Recruitee—show matching pillar scores of 56 in Responsiveness, 55 in Reliability, and 50 in Sentiment.

While specific ghost rates and median response days are currently uncalculated for these specific entries on the ledger, low overall transparency scores reflect weak operational signals across reliability and communication hygiene.

Who Holds the Line

On the higher end of the ledger, a separate group of employers demonstrates that maintaining higher operational standards is entirely possible. Defenseunicorns leads all 118 graded US employers on the ledger with a transparency score of 76 out of 100.

Close behind Defenseunicorns are Bloomreach and Pindropsecurity, both holding solid transparency scores of 75 out of 100. Following them is a cluster of three employers—Supplyhouse, 2k, and Gruve—each scoring 74 out of 100.

While a score of 76 is not a perfect 100, the gap between a 76 and a 50 represents a clear operational difference. Higher-scoring employers demonstrate better consistency in how they maintain candidate records and process applications.

What Candidates Should Do

Navigating a market with a 65.6 average requires a pragmatic approach to every resume submitted. Candidates cannot afford to treat every job posting with equal optimism when operational behavior varies so widely.

  • Check employer transparency scores before spending hours customizing application materials.
  • Assume an application is inactive if you hear nothing after two weeks, regardless of when the position was posted.
  • Treat automated ATS confirmations as receipts rather than indicators of active human evaluation.
  • Focus energy on employers that demonstrate verifiable operational reliability rather than unverified brand prestige.

The fact that zero candidate reports were filed in the last seven days suggests fatigue rather than perfection. Transparency only improves when candidates document what is actually happening inside hiring pipelines.
