Ghost Watch: Analyzing Low Employer Transparency Scores

An analysis of 118 graded US employers reveals a 65.5 average transparency score, highlighting widespread hiring communication gaps.

The Baseline Transparency Gap

When looking across 118 graded US employers on our ledger, the data shows an average transparency score of 65.5 out of 100. That is a mediocre middle ground. It means most companies operate in a grey area where candidates are left waiting without clear feedback or predictable schedules. Over the last seven days, candidates filed zero anonymous reports and opened zero active cases with me. A quiet week on the filing front does not mean hiring processes have suddenly improved. It usually means applicants are burning out and letting broken recruitment pipelines slide without logging the evidence.

A score of 65.5 reflects an environment where job seekers are expected to hand over detailed resumes, complete multi-stage assignments, and clear calendar blocks, while employers commit to very little in return. When communication is inconsistent across the board, candidate silence becomes the default response to corporate ghosting.

The Bottom Tier: Low Scores and Missing Data

At the lower end of the ledger, specific employers show clear signs of poor candidate communication. Picktrace and Project Healthy Minds anchor the bottom with identical scores of 50 out of 100. Just above them are Epsilon3 at 52, Cority at 53, Clickhouse at 53, and Osedea at 54.

For all of these bottom-ranking companies, the specific ghost rate percentage and median response time sit at n/a. That lack of concrete metrics is a signal in itself. When public metrics cannot confirm average response days, job seekers take on all the risk. You submit your work into an administrative void where there is no tracking for how long an application sits unread or when a rejection letter—if one ever comes—will be issued. Low transparency scores highlight organizations where candidate experience is simply not prioritized.

High Performers Setting the Standard

The ledger proves that low transparency is a choice, not an inevitability. Several employers maintain scores well above the national average. Defenseunicorns leads the current rankings with a score of 76 out of 100. Close behind are Imafinancialgroup, 2k, and Gruve, each holding a score of 74. Pindropsecurity and Bitwarden follow at 73 out of 100.

These numbers demonstrate that companies can maintain higher operational transparency if they choose to structure their recruiting process cleanly. While their ghost rates and median response days are also currently unlisted as n/a, their overall pillar performance keeps them significantly higher than the low-scoring group at the bottom of the board.

What Candidates Should Do

Navigating a job market where the average score sits at 65.5 requires strict boundaries. You cannot afford to waste weeks waiting on employers who treat applicant communication as an afterthought.

  • Set strict time limits on application follow-ups and move on once your internal deadline passes.
  • Research employer transparency scores before committing hours to custom take-home tests or extensive interview prep.
  • Monitor which Applicant Tracking System (ATS) an employer uses, such as Greenhouse or Lever, to understand how your data is handled.
  • Document every instance where an employer breaks contact or abandons an active interview stage.

When employers refuse to provide clear timelines, candidates must create their own. Stopping the cycle of silent waiting starts with setting realistic expectations based on hard data rather than company promises.
